CPC Hosts Annual Health & Resource Fair Focused on Community Wellness On September 13th, CPC Brooklyn Community Services held a Health & Family Resource Fair at Leif Ericson Park, serving over 1,000 community members. The event emphasized prevention as the first line of defense for staying healthy, especially as families face the pressures of a rising cost of living. To alleviate this burden, community partners provided resources including children’s books, backpack giveaways, vaccine shots, fresh produce, and raffle prizes. CPC and NYCETC Address NYC's Affordability Crisis in Recent Op-ed On September 26th, The Hill published a joint op-ed by CPC and the New York City Employment and Training Coalition (NYCETC) addressing the affordability crisis in New York City. The piece illustrated that resolving the crisis requires more than just housing subsidies but also requires investment in higher wages that keep pace with the cost of living, career pathways to middle-class jobs with real mobility, and opportunities for building long-term wealth and stability.
Alice Du Named to Schneps Media’s 2025 Brooklyn Power List On September 25th, Alice Du, Director of Communications, was honored at the Brooklyn Power List Gala hosted by Schneps Media for her leadership in strategic communications and storytelling. The list recognizes the most influential individuals in the region for their commitment, impact and influence in the community. At CPC, she provides executive leadership, shapes the organization’s communications strategy, and oversees messaging across multiple platforms. Julio Peña III Honored as a Latino Trailblazer by City and State On September 15th, Julio Peña III, Director of CPC Project Reach, was recognized in City and State’s inaugural Latino Trailblazers list. The list celebrates Latino leaders that have already blazed a trail in many other arenas, from health care to major philanthropies to startups. Julio oversees Project Reach, youth development programs as well as LGBTQ+ and antidiscrimination workshops, advancing opportunities for youth of all backgrounds. Separately, as a Democratic district leader in Sunset Park and Red Hook and as chair of Brooklyn Community Board 7, he has championed equity, inclusion and youth engagement. CPC Partners with Caribbean Equality Project to Advocate for LGBTQIA+ Youth On September 9th, CPC and the Caribbean Equality Project presented a workshop at the 4th Annual Governor’s LGBTQIA+ Convening in Albany. The session centered on the unique experiences of AAPI communities and explored policy solutions and community-led strategies to address healthcare disparities in New York State. Gilbert Wu, Director of Community Health Services, and Samantha Kombel, Health Educator Supervisor, represented CPC. They highlighted the need for holistic care, increased mental health resources, equitable funding, and improved data collection to serve youth effectively. FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age.
CPC Senior Housing Residents Connect Through the Art of Tea On September 26th, residents from CPC Hong Ning Housing and CPC Norfolk Senior Housing participated in the Golden Tea workshop series. The biweekly series, which began in August and will conclude in January, is facilitated by our partners at Tea Arts and Culture. These sessions create social tea experiences that help older adults connect with each other through the art of tea while enjoying varieties from around the world.
CPC Hosts Annual Family Day Fair On September 21st, CPC’s Manhattan Community Services hosted the annual Family Day Fair and brought together hundreds of families. More than 20 partner agencies participated and provided information on health, wellness, and social services available to community members. This celebration not only emphasized the importance of quality family time but also strengthened the bonds within our community. CPC Supports Showdown Chinatown and Celebrates Hip Hop Culture On September 27th, CPC presented a vibrant lion dance performance and supported Showdown Chinatown—a hip-hop festival celebrating the intersection of Chinese and hip-hop culture while honoring immigrant contributions to New York City’s cultural landscape. The event united communities from across the tri-state area for a day of breaking battles, music, and cultural exchange.
CPC Receives Grant from Con Edison to Support Special Needs Families CPC recently received a $30,000 grant from Con Edison to support CPC's Special Needs Families Advocating for Individual Rights (F.A.I.R.) program, a parent-led initiative dedicated to empowering and advocating for AAPI families caring for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
