Mayor Cornett delivers State of the City Address Last week, Mayor Mick Cornett spoke to a crowd of over 1,500 people to deliver the State of the City Address, in which he recapped Oklahoma City's many recent accomplishments and shared his vision for the future. In his address, Mayor Cornett talked about the OKC Thunder, where we rank on national top 10 lists, the new downtown elementary school, and more. We're proud to have a mayor is dedicated to improving our community, and funny enough to occasionally throw the word "cray cray" into his speeches. If you missed it, you can watch the full address on the OKC Chamber's YouTube channel. We look forward to a successful and exciting 2013!
OKC to be featured on American Idol tonight The nation’s eyes and ears will be on Oklahoma City when FOX airs the city’s auditions for American Idol tonight, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. The popular reality show filmed opening auditions at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in the summer of 2012. Those talented enough to impress the judges had call-back auditions at the Devon Boathouse in the fall of 2012 before a select few earned a trip to Hollywood. While the crew had high praise for the city, the show’s production also left an impression on OKC residents. “I never imagined I would have the opportunity to work on the production of American Idol – what a cool thing to get to do,” said Martha Burger, Senior Vice President, Human and Corporate Resources at Chesapeake Energy Corporation. “It was hard not to be a little star-struck. And, it was fascinating to see the behind-the-scenes action for the production of a show of that magnitude.” The episode is a major coupe in highlighting local talent and placing the spotlight on OKC’s major improvements to downtown and the riverfront. American Idol will air locally on FOX 25.
