Pool safety for summer

space

A dip in the pool can be a great way to keep cool over summer.  If you have young children its a good idea to supervise them at all times at the beach, local creek or backyard pool.

That's the advice from Royal Life Saving Queensland's Michael Darben.

"Research of drowning incidents have shown that there's sometimes up to 30 minutes delay in the last time the (parents) have seen that child to when they've been found in the water, " he told Stayin' Strong.

Smile with teeth

To keep tooth decay and gum disease at bay its a good idea to brush and floss twice a day and to visit the dentist regulary.

While this is important for everyone to follow, it's imperative for pregnant women to look after their oral health too.

Stayin' Strong spoke to Camile Farrah, an Associate professor at the University of Queensland’s School of Dentistry about the link between periodontal disease (gum disease), pregnancy and low birth weight in babies. Listen to the message here.
