EYE14 Final Countdown

We are in the final countdown to EYE14: Marked for Mission, taking place July 9-13, 2014, in and around Philadelphia.

This newsletter includes information and links for participants and for those praying at home, including:

  • Links for watching the event unfold on social media, including live coverage of our worship and plenary sessions

More details specific to diocesan delegations is also being distributed through direct email and Facebook group posts for Diocesan Registrars.

Please keep the following collect in your prayers as our young Episcopal community of over 1,100 people from over 80 dioceses convene next month to celebrate our Christian identity and learn about putting our faith in action by engaging the Five Marks of Mission.

I can’t wait to greet you in Philly!

Godspeed,

Collect for EYE14

Ever-loving God, you have brought us together and empowered us to serve as your disciples. We ask you to guide and bless us as we strive to tell the Good News of your love; teach and nurture all believers; tend to the human condition; transform and reconcile the world as Christ has shown us; and treasure your creation and our salvation through Jesus Christ. May we be engulfed in your love and blessings as we live out the mission and work you have given us, through Jesus Christ, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

Live Hymnal to Lead Music Worship

The Liturgy & Music team is proud to announce that Live Hymnal will be leading music worship at EYE14. Live Hymnal is a community of musicians and singers from South Florida that gathers on Sundays to breathe new life into beautiful, poetic hymns and sacred songs. Their music crosses many divides, unifying cultures, lifestyles, backgrounds, theologies, and demographics. If one word could describe Live Hymnal, it would be “joy.”

New Community Youth at EYE

The purpose of the New Community event at EYE14 is to gather youth from ethnic constituencies for conversations around the social issues of the day; to build capacities for their personal interaction and for becoming agents of transformation to participate in forming the model of the beauty of the church and in reconciling the world to God and one another in Christ. Following the conference, New Community Youth participants will join their diocesan delegations for EYE14. For more information, contact Angela Ifill, aifill@episcopalchurch.org.

FAQs

Can you recommend a commissioning prayer or liturgy for travel?

On the EpiscoYouth blog, you will find several commissioning services, including this Liturgy for Travelers.

Where can I find the list of speakers for EYE14?

We are not releasing information about EYE14 speakers or workshops before arrival at the event.

How do we find out about our 3 Days of Urban Mission assignments?

If your delegation is participating in 3 Days of Urban Mission, you will receive a direct email from the event coordinator with details about this post-EYE14 event. Keep in mind that mission work is always fluid, and your exact assignment is subject to change.

How will medications be handled during EYE14?

Diocesan Adult Leaders will be responsible for making sure the daily maintenance medications are administered. Any narcotics, psychotropic drugs, and medications that require refrigeration should be checked in with medical staff and will be administered by staff over the course of the main event. All prescription medications should be in original containers and listed on a medical form with condition and purpose. Please bring two inhalers and Epipens so that a backup can be stored with the medical team.

Can we do laundry during EYE14?

Yes, laundry facilities are available; however, access must be reserved in advance and with payment of an additional fee. If you wish to take advantage of that, please pre-arrange with Valerie Harris directly.

What can we expect in terms of weather, and how should we dress for the climate?

Typically, Philadelphia is hot and humid during July. Be sure to bring layers of clothing, since you will be moving between the outdoor heat and air conditioning. This doesn't mean you should pack only sandals. You will be doing quite a bit of walking, so be sure members of your delegation bring comfortable walking shoes.
