Changes to online services

HMRC have updated their VAT online services, which now include facilities to register and deregister for VAT.  It also now allows attachments, such as Option to Tax notifications and VAT Grouping forms, to be sent with applications to register. The new services also automatically enrol a business for online services, and allow applications for annual accounting and Flat Rate Scheme to be submitted online.

HMRC set up new email advice service

HMRC are inviting small and medium sized firms to sign up to receive regular emails giving help and support. The new service is primarily for people who are new to business, either setting up or expanding.

'Non Established' (Overseas) taxable persons will need to register for UK VAT

Following a recent European Court decision, HMRC have confirmed that from 1 December 2012 the VAT registration threshold will be removed for non-resident businesses trading in the UK.
