Click here CPC Statement Condemning ICE Shooting in New York City NEW YORK, NY — The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) strongly condemns the shooting by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in New York City. We extend our support to the victim, his family, and all impacted community members. It is unconscionable that a five-year-old child was in the vehicle when officers opened fire. Reckless enforcement actions threaten family safety and inflict lasting trauma on our youngest community members. All New Yorkers deserve to raise their families and live in peace — free from tactics that terrorize neighborhoods and tear communities apart. As ICE detentions have surged nationwide, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community members have experienced the negative impacts, with an over 500% increase in detentions of AAPI New Yorkers and over 1,000% in deportations of AAPI New Yorkers. CPC has seen how this has harmed our community members, causing fear and panic among community members of all ages and backgrounds. and tearing families apart. CPC calls for a swift, transparent, and independent investigation into this incident. We urge officials to reinforce immigrant protections, halt dangerous federal operations, and prioritize community-based family support services. CPC remains steadfast in providing children, youth, and families with critical resources and advocacy efforts during this challenging time. ABOUT CPC 關於華策會 ACERCA DE CPC |
