A Message from the President

Happy New Year!

As we look back on 2010, it was a significant year for Transtar. In April we celebrated our 35th anniversary. We are truly honored by the dedication of our employees and loyalty of our valued customers. We would like to thank YOU for being the reason we have a 35th anniversary to celebrate!

However, we are not just celebrating 35 years of business: We are commemorating 35 years of partnership. From our first day, relationship has been at the heart of our business – it is foundational and our commitment to you. Employees and customers alike have become family. Your Transtar sales rep knows more than just the parts you need – they know you. They know your voice, your business and, in many cases, your family!

A major key to building successful partnerships lies in our desire and ability to fulfill that mission personally with each customer. Our mission is to be the premier provider of world-class driveline solutions. What does that mean to you?

The last portion of the Transtar mission statement speaks of our desire to provide solutions for all your driveline needs, not just to sell you parts. Our Complete Transmission Units are a prime example of a Transtar solution that benefits you. With the proliferation of applications and transmissions over the last decade, it is almost impossible to keep up with their design and technology. That’s where we can help. Transtar’s comprehensive line of Complete Automatic, Standard and Transfer Case Units covers many applications that you may only see in your shop once or twice a year. In those instances, call your Transtar sales rep and ask them to quote a complete unit for that job. Raising the Bar One Notch at a Time

The Recon manufacturing group has been hard at work developing a new torque converter for 1994-2007 Dodge Ram trucks equipped with the Cummins diesel engine. From the initial design concept all the way through production, Recon utilized the resources of the Transtar group as well as extensive industry contacts to produce a converter that combines exceptional performance at a value price.

Teamwork was the key: This collaborative effort included members of the Recon Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and Materials Management groups. Recon manufacturing has the in-house talent and equipment to fully engineer and prototype a converter for any application.

After creating the new CR70X-S2, the team needed to validate that it worked in terms of fit, form and function. They performed a baseline evaluation by comparing the performance of vehicles with stock converters and the new converter. Not only did the CR70X-S2 work well with the driveline, it lowered the stall speed, showed zero concerns in regards to tuning or NVH, and greatly outperformed the stock converters.

When it came time to distribute and track a pilot build throughout North America, the Transtar team was up for the challenge. Test shops were chosen by the Transtar senior sales and management team. Over one hundred converters were distributed throughout the United States and Canada, and vehicle information was collected and returned for analysis. Each vehicle core returned was cut open and analyzed and variety of information was collected, including vehicle usage and mileage, for follow-up at a later date.

Knowing that our customers don’t always stay on the highway and use their vehicles as they were designed to be used, we also wanted to test the converter in more extreme conditions. Three trucks were selected based on their competitive sled pulling performance – all three went a full season with one of the pilot build converters each without failure. The pulling sleds were loaded with approximately 50,000 lbs, and each truck was driven until it couldn’t move the sled forward any further. This stresses the entire driveline beyond what it was intended to handle - no torque converter failures occurred.

The CR70X-S2 fits all 47RH/RE and 48RE transmissions type for model years 1994-2007. It is an ideal converter for any stock or modified vehicle with a perfect balance of performance and durability for the money, and is in stock and available from all Transtar locations.
