#teamVB's answer to the cold - BIG Reds!

English Summer. Now there's an oxymoron if ever we've heard one. The thought of a few warm months never fills us with hope. And as soon as the sun actually shines for a few days, no sooner does it seem to be gone again.

#teamVB are here to help with all of that, though. For as we bid farewell to those pub garden afternoons, we welcome something every bit, or at least almost, as powerful... Full bodied reds. Punchy enough to pick you up and so smooth you'll soon forget all about the slowly declining temperatures, these wines will not disappoint. Unlike, perhaps, the English Summer.

So draw the curtains, light the fire, and pour yourself a hearty glass of one of these beauties. Forget the Sun, #teamVB's big reds are here to keep you warm!

Magnanimvs Platino 2015

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Dark inky black, bursting with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry and dark cherry. Vanilla and chocolate intertwine with cedar and toasted oak. The fruit is so, so juicy, with added honey, toffee yogurt and a touch of black pepper. There's a lovely hint of coffee on the finish too.

Bodega Mayo Garcia, Magnanimvs Platino 2015, just £10.67 per bottle.

Carus Vini Robeo 2012

This 100% Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and supple, and is immediately reminiscent of a classic Bordeaux. Cigar box notes, cedar and smoke, followed by hints of vanilla, clove and cinnamon. Seriously classic on the palate. Dark fruit and fantastic integration of tannin. Lovely fruit driven sweetness on the finish. Shining super Tuscan putting the big names to shame.

Carus Vini Robeo, IGT Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, just £12.67 per bottle.

Carus Vini Téspero 2012

100% Syrah (or Shiraz), and so chocolatey; with lots of vanilla, caramel, raisins and sultanas. Plenty of coffee notes too, underlying the fresh and dried red fruits. The tannins are fine and integrate wonderfully with a great brace of acidity. Spice and considerable power on the finish, with a wonderful length of dark, chocolatey charged fruit.

Carus Vini Téspero, IGT Toscana Syrah 2012, £14.83 per bottle.

Padelletti Brunello di Montalcino 2010

Coffee, tobacco spice and clove on the nose. Very youthful on the palate but still so much to it. The winemakers say it'll cellar for 75 years! Spice notes, smooth integration of tannins, refreshing acidity and so much vibrant red fruit swim around the palate in beautiful harmony. It will benefit from an hour's decanting, and will certainly reward being allowed to lie for a year or more. Wonderful now, but showing huge ageing potential too.

Padelletti Brunello di Montalcino 2010, £30.83 per bottle.
