Some highlights included hearing from local resident Grant Donnell as part of our Public Forum. Mr Donnell addressed the Board in relation to roading concerns on Mairehau Road and other safety concerns in the Parklands area. Preparations in play for Children's Day 2021Join us for Children's Day 2021, a popular annual event for all tamariki and whānau that celebrates tamariki. Bring your picnic lunch and enjoy all the free children’s activities, including performing arts, crafts, sports, activities and games. Got an idea for a red zone community project?Do you or a group you work with have an idea for a project or event in our city's former residential red zones? Drone racing takes off in former red zoneDrones are being raced at speeds of up to 160 kilometres an hour on a purpose-built racing course in Christchurch’s former red zone. The course has been created by the club, Red Zone Drone Racing Inc, on Crown-owned land in Burwood that it leases from Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). The drone racing track is one of more than 2800 transitional land uses that LINZ has facilitated in the former red zone since 2016. Learn to swim and WINSwimsmart teaches your child essential skills and confidence to survive in the water. Help track Christchurch’s changing coastlineWith a simple snap Christchurch residents can become beach scientists. The CoastSnap community science project relies on repeat photos taken at the same location to track how coastlines are changing over time due to human activity and natural processes such as storms, rising sea levels and day-to-day changes in the beach structure. Visitors to the New Brighton Pier can take part in CoastSnap by taking a photo and sharing it on the CoastSnap app, via Twitter or Instagram, or by emailing coastsnap@ccc.govt.nz. Mushroom area to spring up in former red zoneA mushroom-themed education, play and foraging area will sprout in the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor Regeneration Area in the coming months. Favourite parks in frame for young video creatorsAre you a budding film-maker aged between 7 and 12? Share your favourite outdoor space or park with us by creating a 60-second video to celebrate Parks Week. The best video will win a family zipline experience at the Christchurch Adventure Park while family pool passes are also on offer. Parks Week will be held from 6 to 14 March. Council offers students hands-on learning opportunitiesChristchurch school students will get hands-on lessons this year on how to minimise their waste thanks to a free Learning Through Action programme run by Christchurch City Council. Feedback wanted on central city parking approachChristchurch City Council is encouraging people to give their feedback on a proposed new policy that aims to ensure the right mix of parking in the central city. Cheque payments coming to an endChristchurch City Council is stopping cheques as a payment option.
