Greetings from your Community BoardMessage from the ChairKia ora koutou, Highlights from our latest meetingOur Community Board met on Tuesday 2 February. Some highlights of our meeting included hearing from local residents as part of our Public Forum. Russell Wills spoke to the board about traffic issues in Hornby, Ross Houliston spoked about a number of issues of concern to local residents and Marc Duff addressed the Board on behalf of the Greater Hornby Residents’ Association. We also heard from Bethany Howarth regarding stormwater drainage issues on her property in Quarry View subdivision Halswell. Templeton resident Mark Amer spoke to the board about issues at a nearby social housing complex and James Ensor, Eden Husband,
and Roger Allen, members of the Naval Point Boat Safety Group, updated the board on the proposed redevelopment of Naval Point. If you'd like to speak to our board at an upcoming meeting, please contact the board advisor Faye Collins at Faye.Collins@ccc.govt.nz. Explore Christchurch's newest wetlandNative flora and fauna are starting to flourish in a new wetland area in Halswell. The artificial wetland has been created at Quaifes Road in Halswell to capture and naturally filter stormwater before it flows into Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) via the Halswell River. It’s one of several new wetland areas that Christchurch City Council has constructed to manage stormwater and improve the quality of water flowing into our rivers. It is a great place to explore and we encourage people to visit and take a walk through the wetland. If you are bringing a dog with you, please keep it on a leash because we don’t want dogs disturbing the nesting birds or chicks. Feedback wanted on central city parking approachChristchurch City Council is encouraging people to give their feedback on a proposed new policy that aims to ensure we have the right mix of parking in the central city. Quake anniversary events to be live-streamed for allPlans are being put in place to ensure that people all around the world can join in next month’s events to mark the 10th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck Christchurch in February 2011. Cheque payments coming to an endChristchurch City Council is stopping cheques as a payment option. Residents will no longer be able to make cheque payments from 30 April 2021, due to the three major New Zealand banks phasing them out in May, June and July of this year.
