Click here Barnard College Update - Wednesday, March 8, 2017Dear Claremont resident: As Barnard’s spring break nears, we continue to make progress erecting the new building’s steel infrastructure and look forward to this phase ending in early April. You may have seen our announcement last week naming the building “The Cheryl and Philip Milstein Teaching and Learning Center.” We are so grateful to the Milstein family for their support of the College and look forward to The Milstein Center opening in August 2018. Thursday marks another exciting milestone as we are scheduled to pour concrete for The Milstein Center’s lower floors. You may notice on the days when we pour concrete we will have workers remaining onsite during the evening and overnight hours. Masons will be finishing the concrete during the late afternoon and evening, making certain it is level and smooth, and additional workers will be onsite overnight to monitor the heaters that help cure the concrete. We will have tarps covering these areas that should help mask the lighting and activity. This work should not be disruptive, but we did want to share with you that workers will remain onsite overnight following concrete pours. In addition, a few people have asked why the lights on the site are staying on during the overnight hours. The lighting is required under Department of Building safety regulations and the construction company doesn’t have the ability to redirect or reduce the illumination of these lights. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope some of the impact from these lights will be minimized once the exterior walls start going up later this spring. Schedule The schedule continues to be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Questions?
