Hyrel Developing Tri-Color 3D Printer Extruder for Release in 2013

"Deep in the heart of the south, Kickstarter-funded, Atlanta-based Hyrel has begun prototyping what could be among the next generation of 3D printers - a full-color printer.

The Hyrel unit, presently in development, will use a three-color extruder head to blend red, green and blue color strands together to create any color the user might need in their 3D model."

Expect 3D printed props in The Hobbit’s Unexpected Journey

"From weapons like the Orcrist and Sting to apparel such as helmets and buckles, they’re all printable. Even Hollywood prosthetics like feet extenders and ears can be printed; medical grade noses are being printed elsewhere. Really, there’s not much on a movie set that can’t be printed, especially when you’re working with a modified robotic milling arm that can print a car."

voxeljet builds Aston Martin models for James Bond film Skyfall

"Innovative 3D printing technology from Augsburg-based voxeljet is on display in the newest James Bond film Skyfall – more specifically in the scene when James Bond's car explodes in flames. A total of three Aston Martin DB 5 models were created at the company's service centre. The models double for the now priceless original vehicle from the 1960s in the film's action scenes."

Crowdfund the Rygo

"We are combining high technology and high art to create something very special – the Rygo. Standing 2 meters tall, it will be the largest such 3D print of any type in North America (quite possibly the Western hemisphere) and will be installed for all the world to see at Gropp’s Gallery of Vancouver, Canada."
