executive insight

This November issue of our newsletter is powerful as we reflect on the past year and recognize the positive outcomes you have helped create for people across Montana.

Take Jessa’s story in our Annual Report as an example of how safe, healthy housing that people can afford helped create a community that empowered her to make decisions which ultimately improved her health and family and advanced her career.

Additionally, our housing and education programs provide people with a foundation that empowers them to create a path to brighter futures.

I believe that, when given the opportunity, people strive to flourish. When we flourish, we add value to the world.

Thank you for making this possible for our friends and neighbors and for standing together with us as we create sustainable communities for all!

– Andrea Davis

Annual Report

Thank you for empowering Montanans like Jessa!

"Being able to afford housing that’s safe and feels good is empowering."

Read her story and more in our Annual Report.

knowledge is empowerment

"Enjoyed the class so much and got a lot of information! Thank you Homeword for all the free sessions and financial education."

"Your energy is awesome in helping broach these seemingly overwhelming topics with clients. You are inspiring and you rock!"

Thank you for supporting our programs that offer people in our community hope by empowering them to manage their household budgets, find and retain housing, improve their credit scores and achieve their housing and financial goals!

SUPPORTING THE PLAN TO END HOMELESSNESS

Homeword’s HomeOwnership Center staff are planning to participate in two upcoming events in support of Reaching Home: Missoula’s 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness.

Missoula will host its first Homeless Persons’ Memorial at the Missoula County Courthouse on December 21, the longest night of the year. Advocates, service providers, homeless and formerly homeless people, religious leaders and concerned citizens will honor the lives and dreams of homeless men and women who died this year in Missoula and will renew their commitment to end homelessness.

The second event our team is excited to support is the annual Project Homeless Connect, which is a one-day, one-stop service event that connects people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless with core services. It is a collaborative effort between service providers, local businesses, nonprofits and volunteers that will help individuals and families gain access to over 75 services in one day! This year Project Homeless Connect will take place at the Missoula County Fairgrounds on January 27.

Through our participation in these events, Homeword continues our commitment to Reaching Home and supporting Montanans in need.

introducing Small modular homes

We are pleased to share that we are in the process of acquiring at least 10 small, new or gently used modular homes to be used in Missoula for either homeownership or rental housing that people can afford. This opportunity comes at a time when housing in Missoula is at a premium and an all-time high.

We are excited to seize this unique opportunity to provide small homes at an economical price. We’re aiming to place them affordably, efficiently and with good design.

The modular homes are small but well laid out. A one bedroom home is approximately 450 square feet and a two bedroom home is approximately 550 square feet. They will be placed on permanent foundations and architecture firms are designing modified elevations for the homes to fit respectfully into existing neighborhoods.

We are in the preliminary phases of determining how these homes will be used and are looking for appropriate parcels of land to house one or more of these small homes. More details to come as they unfold!

Welcome home - SWEETGRASS COMMONS

It’s not too late to find your fresh start!

Our latest apartment community in Missoula is leasing quickly, but there are still studio, one, two and three bedroom units available, including fully accessible units. Residents will start moving in late December and early January.

These new apartments are available to households earning less than 60% of Missoula’s Area Median Income. What does that mean? Well, if you are a two-person household with gross earnings (before taxes and social security, etc.) that are less than about $14.20 per hour/$29,580 per year, you might qualify to live in this new, safe and healthy housing.

This sustainably built property is located in the heart of Missoula, close to many services and recreation areas and just a couple of blocks from Mountain Line bus stops.

Call 406.927.2635 for more information about how to apply.
