2017 will be a great year for exhibitions, says Leipzig

GermanyisWunderbar

Leipzig's exhibitions are like London's buses: they come all at once! The first of the year will be Yadegar Asisi's new panorama, TItanic, a huge wraparound, walkaround painting of the great liner in its watery grave. Then comes a big show in the Museum der bildenden Künste of German Expressionist painting, particularly Emil Nolde and other artists of the early 20th century 'Brücke' group, famous for vibrant colours. Meanwhile the Spinnerei converted cotton mill will be conducting regular tours of all its studios, and the Kunstkraftwerk former heating plant in the west of town will host the video installation "Hundertwasser Experience" (left) where visitors can literally immerse themselves in the works of the painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

2017 will be a great year for cool culture, says Weimar

GermanyisWunderbar

Fabulous open-air classical music, a cutting-edge festival of audio-visual art and interactive projections, a festival of art (left) featuring dance and performances – we might be in the middle of winter but, boy, are we looking forward to another summer of culture in Weimar! From June to September, the Thuringian town’s Weimar Summer full of festivities, music and inspiring cultural events by now draws more visitors than classic city break months such as May or September. Not too surprising, actually, since discovering Weimar’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites during the day and enjoying artists from around the world in parks and on town squares in the evening is – just great.

2017 will be a great year for family boating, says Kuhnle

GermanyisWunderbar

In an era where British travellers, in particular, are feeling the pinch from a fluctuating exchange rate, Germany's premier boat hirer Kuhnle-Tours, who have bases in the extensive Mecklenburg and Brandenburg lakeland that lies north of Berlin, are reaching out to hard-pressed families with several offers. The family discount is 5 percent with one child on board and 10 percent with two or more children on board. On top of that are Early Bird incentives, with another five percent off on boats booked before 31 December 2016, and a further five percent  reduction if the whole rental fee is paid in full within seven days.
