Theresa May finally secured EU backing for a Brexit deal in Brussels yesterday. But if we thought the first two years of this process has been tough, we ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Britain can expect its neighbours to really start playing hardball now the finer details are up for discussion. And that’s assuming the deal even gets through the UK parliament.
The latest episode of BBC wildlife spectacular Dynasties tells the dramatic life-or-death tale of a lion pride. The species as a whole needs our attention, according to Niki Rust. Without urgent funding for conservation, lions may well die out. Tigers, meanwhile, are also in trouble. Marianna Szczygielska considers how the recent Czech discovery of a crime ring dealing in tiger body parts underscores the plight of big cats bred in captivity, as well as those in the wild.
Europe’s cultural institutions have garnered wealth and prestige from their collections of African art. Archaeologist Mark Horton argues that the time has now come to restitute artefacts plundered during the colonial era, and restore African countries’ lost heritage.
