On we go to Value Vino, this week’s treats are: Sainsbury’s TTD Viognier IGP Pays D’OC 2019 (13%) £8 Attractive delicacy to this gorgeous white wine, the whole experience reminds me of brushing past a stall selling peaches at a sunny French market. There’s vitality alongside scent here too, like an apricot that's made up its mind to learn tap-dancing. Bulgarian Heritage Misket Via Vinera 2019 (13%) £7.50 The Wine Society. Orange blossom! Refreshing and floral as a sherbet rose, this Bulgarian beauty is unbeatable value for money. Pasqua Romeo & Juliet Passione Sentimento Passimento Bianco 2019 (13%) £8.99 Majestic. I poured this for Rick Stein who memorably described it as “Soave on steroids”. Luxuriant, plush, rich and creamy, this is a stellar white to pour with turkey and all the trimmings. Wolfberger Gewurztraminer 2018 (12.5%) £9.25 Co-Op. Slick rich and and exotic, this is like liquid rose petals trickling over a heap of glossy lychees. Immense with spicy foods, stock up for the turkey curry this Christmas. Famille Perrin Les Cardinaux 2018 (14%) £10 Tesco. A treat of a red wine from the same family behind famous Château Beaucastel. Balanced between ripeness and spice, there’s just the right tension here to hold up the fruit. This is aromatic and altogether lovely. Have a festive weekend and keep in touch, Olly x |
