The streets of Southampton were adorned with rhinos this summer, on every corner these pieces of art stood proud and were seen by hundreds of thousands of business visitors, tourists and city residents.
All 36 large rhino sculptures and one little rhino ‘Rudy’ went under the hammer at the Grand Harbour Hotel and more than 300 people attended the auction.
One lot, ‘Flossy’ the rhino sold for a fantastic £9,000 which created much excitement in the auction room. The winning bidder bought the sculpture in memory of his mother who was also called Flossy.
Kirstie Mathieson, Go! Rhinos project manager was delighted with the result, she said: “The auction was fantastic, it was a great atmosphere and auctioneer for the evening Mike Osman brought a great sense of fun to the evening".
The money raised at the auction will go towards Marwell Wildlife, The Rose Road Association and Wessex Heartbeat’s High 5 Appeal.
Destination Southampton was a proud co-sponsor of the punk rhino 'Stylo'. Along with the Hoteliers Association we were delighted that Stylo raised £2,500.00 for the fantastic charities.
