Click here Hi there, Gartner VP analyst Gareth Herschel made an insightful comment at this week’s Data and Analytics APAC Summit: "Data without a decision is a distraction". It’s a simple statement that speaks to a real truth. The world might be swamped with data, but using it to add real value is not so easy. Herschel’s argument – given further weight by several of the customer stories presented during the summit – is that we need to work backwards. Don’t start with the data you have, start with the decision that can be improved with better data, and then find a way to make it available where and when it is needed. It starts with asking the right questions of your users and looking beyond your immediate organisational boundaries. As Herschel puts it: “We need to do the things the CEO cares about, like helping enable a transformation of our business model, identify the changes sweeping our industry before anyone else, optimise the way we manage our resources, and figure out new ways to connect employees, customers, and other stakeholders.” Enjoy the read, Heather Wright In this issue AppWrap: Tech news from around the webFBI messaging app lead to global arrests worldwide after suspects were tricked into using an FBI-run encrypted messaging app. Big name websites around the world went offline after a ‘technical issue’ at the Fastly CDN.
