Greetings from your Community BoardMessage from the ChairKia ora koutou, Highlights from our latest meetingOur Community Board met on Monday 17 August. Some highlights of our meeting included approving funding for a range of fantastic community projects as part of our 2020/2021 Strengthening Communities Fund. We also received an update on the New Brighton Tiny Huts and considered options to install additional on-street mobility parking on Seaview Road, New Brighton. This report has been written in response to a request from a resident who raised concern about insufficient accessible parking in this area. Perhaps you've always wanted to put on a potluck for the whole street? Summer with your neighbours is about bringing people closer together and celebrating the unique and diverse mix of each neighbourhood. Planting event welcomes rainbow communityChristchurch’s rainbow community will have the chance to go green at a volunteer planting event that's a first for the city.
New working group focuses on coastal hazardsA working group made up of Councillors and two members from Te Rūnanaga o Ngāi Tahu will help guide two important projects relating to the impact of climate change on the coastal hazards risk in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula. New home for cricket at Burwood ParkAfter many years of work, with fundraising and campaigning from the East, Christchurch Shirley Cricket Club Junior and Senior Committees, Burwood Park finally will have a home artificial cricket wicket for Juniors to play on. Thanks to the local Community Board, Canterbury Junior Cricket Association, Christchurch Metropolitan Cricket, East Shirley Parents and Christchurch City Council, the East side has another asset for sport. New dates for The Walking FestivalWe have postponed The Walking Festival until 2021. The two week festival will be held between 17 April to 2 May 2021. Keep an eye out for updates on our Facebook. How can we build connections to meet the new realities of our world? Council is revisiting its 2007 Strengthening Communities Strategy and wants your feedback on how we can build and strengthen community connections over the next 10 years. Metro Sports Facility – Aquatic Sensory ExperienceWhen Metro Sports Facility opens in 2022, it will be the largest aquatic and indoor recreation and leisure venue in New Zealand. It will include an Aquatic Sensory Experience. Let us know how you would like to use the space. Feedback wanted on CHCH is LITChristchurch residents are being asked their thoughts on CHCH is LIT – a new outdoor lighting festival that ran in the central city and New Brighton in July.
