Therapeutic Associates – Gresham Physical Therapy Director Now Credentialed as a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist!
We are proud to announce that John Parr PT, OCS, CMPT, has earned his Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist Certification!
Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialists are recognized by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) as individuals whose clinical specialization in orthopedic physical therapy demonstrates knowledge, skill and experience exceeding that of an entry level physical therapist. The specialist certification program was established to provide formal recognition for physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge, experience, and skills in this special area of practice and to assist consumers and the health care community in identifying these physical therapists.
CONGRATULATIONS JOHN!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness and National Physical Therapy Month!
October is both Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as well as National Physical Therapy Month, making
this a good time to consider how breast cancer survivors can benefit from Physical Therapy.
Many breast cancer patients have swelling, pain or lack of movement in their upper extremities. Post mastectomy patients in particular can benefit from PT to reduce scar tissue, swelling and improve motion and upper extremity function.
Chemotherapy can result in deconditioning, so physical therapy can also help to get patients moving and regain strength and endurance.
Finally, we treat other women’s health issues, such as pelvic pain and urinary incontinence. Women’s Health Physical therapy can help assist women in achieving their maximum health and function.
The Low Back Pain Revolution
At Therapeutic Associates, we are constantly trying to get better at what we do. We have just concluded an exciting project called the
Low Back Pain Revolution. It is based on extensive review of current research in low back pain. Here’s a brief summary of what we found:
Early physical therapy intervention results in faster and stronger recovery.
Patients tend for fit into one of three treatment based classifications, and outcomes are dramatically improved when they are placed in the correct one.
Clinical Prediction Rules in the literature provide strong evidence for manipulation, repeated movement and stabilization treatment protocols for patients who fit criteria for those classifications.
Low back pain is our number one diagnosis and we are dedicated developing the best possible treatment. We have already begun treating our lumbar patients based on these classifications and are collecting outcomes data.
