University of Canterbury - Juice

Welcome back: Term 2

One era ends, another begins...

It's that time of year again: when more than 1200 University of Canterbury graduands put on funny hats and gowns, take to the stage at the CBS Arena and receive a very valuable piece of paper from the University Chancellor. Graduation is always a great time to recognise the achievements of UC students, and we're proud as always to see so many new additions to the ranks of UC alumni.

Honorary doctorates
In addition to celebrating its newest graduates, UC is awarding honorary doctorates to five of its most distinguished alumni at this week's ceremonies.
  • Emeritus Professor John Burrows QC, Law Commissioner
  • David Caygill, former MP and Minister of Finance
  • Dr Richard Garland, chemist
  • Simon Murdoch, former diplomat and Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Ngau Boon Keat, Malaysian businessman

Food and Foundry

Contractors have been hard at work over the holidays and, as a result, The Burg (serving up, not surprisingly, burgers) and Hot Wok (noodles, rice and associated goodies) are now open in the Undercroft for your study-fuelling needs.

This Thursday sees the opening of the new Events Centre in the UCSA car park, housing the latest incarnation of the campus bar, The Foundry. The Shilling Club wine bar is also on track to open this week on the north corner of the Undercroft.
