History of Oklahoma City police is on display in BricktownBricktown's newest attraction is a history exhibit on the Oklahoma City Police Department. The exhibit is on display at 219 E Main St. The new exhibits, which date to the city's earliest days as a fairly lawless town that sprouted overnight to 10,000 people, are enough to merit the station status as one of Bricktown's newest attractions for locals and tourists alike. The exhibits include early-day booking photos, guns, badges, the city's first bomb removal unit, vintage police uniforms, and displays on the visits of gangsters including Bonnie and Clyde and Machine Gun Kelly. Free movie night series begins at the Boathouse District The Boathouse District in downtown OKC will offer free family movie nights this summer on the banks of the Oklahoma River. The inaugural film, Dolphin Tale, will be screened Saturday, June 23 at 8:30 p.m. Admission and parking at the corner of Lincoln Blvd. and S.E. 6th St. are free and concessions will be available for purchase. Movie-goers are invited to bring their chairs and blankets to watch the film, which will be displayed on the side of the Chesapeake Finish Line Tower. Boathouse District Family Movie Night takes place following RIVERSPORT Adventure Saturdays, which provide a new way to experience more than a dozen fun and exciting activities on the Oklahoma River for one price. Activities include rowing and kayaking lessons, Paddle Now kayak, stand up paddle board and dragon boat experiences, the kayak plunge and more. Adventure Saturdays take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Boathouse District, Lincoln Blvd and S.E. 6th Street. Sunday Twilight Concert Series presents Maurice Johnson & Company This summer, the Sunday Twilight Concert Series, presented by Devon, is inviting music lovers of all ages to free, family-friendly concerts at the Myriad Gardens. Maurice Johnson & Company is set to perform the next concert in the series on Sunday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m. The Oklahoma City-based band, always a crowd favorite at Arts Council events, showcases some of the best jazz guitar playing in the metro. Johnson has written three nationally-published music books, built handcrafted archtop guitars, and sold an exclusive line of guitars honoring jazz great, Charlie Christian, to Gibson Guitars. Johnson's meticulous jazz music entrances audiences of all ages. “Maurice Johnson & Company is a concert you won’t want to miss,” said Christina Foss, director of the Sunday Twilight Concert Series, presented by Devon. “Maurice is a phenomenal jazz guitarist who will leave you in awe. Maurice drew a large crowd at Opening Night 2012 and we are so excited to have him back!” This year’s lineup, which is subject to change, is as follows:

Registration open for RIVERSPORT Challenge Dual-Sport Race Registration is open for the RIVERSPORT Challenge. The dual sport event will feature a kayak race followed by a running race and will take placeSaturday, June 30 with adults starting at 8:30 a.m. and youth ages 8-12 starting at 10 a.m. The adult race consists of a 500-meter sprint in a stable recreational kayak followed by a 5k run. Youth will kayak for 200m then participate in a quarter mile run. Races will be held in the Boathouse District on the Oklahoma River and Oklahoma River Trails. Registration includes a free kayak rental and participants are encouraged to rent kayaks by the hour or purchase a monthly pass to get more preparation on the water before the day of the race. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each five-year age group as well as the overall male and female participants. Every youth entry will be given an award to celebrate their accomplishment and hard work in preparing for the race. The RIVERSPORT Challenge will be part of the SandRidge Energy Stars & Stripes River Festival. This all-day event includes family activities, food from local vendors, live music and fireworks. OKCMOA, ULI collaborative film series kicks off tonightStarting tonight, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, in collaboration with the Urban Land Institute of Oklahoma, presents five new films that explore the effects of urbanization on modern life. The film series runs June 21-24, 2012, and will conclude with a panel discussion about Oklahoma City’s urban development. Snack WarsSnack Wars is a live, snack-making challenge for kids where five participants per age division compete before a panel of three local expert judges. Kids are faced with taking everyday food items and turning them into a healthy and delicious after-school snack. Participants have 12 minutes to plan and assemble a snack with a tub of mystery ingredients given to them. The goal of this challenge is to encourage kids to get into the kitchen and get creative and have fun while learning about food, flavor, fuel and nutrition. Snack Wars was developed through Portion Size Me, a lifestyle and campaign that started out as a summer project in the home of then-10-year-old Marshall Reid of Sanford, NC, who inspired his family to “get real” with their food choices.
