Takeaways from Whole Girl, Whole World Presentation

Crofton House and the CHS Parents’ Auxiliary were pleased to welcome Jessica Lahey as our Whole Girl, Whole World speaker on September 27. Parent and CHS Parent’s Auxiliary member Jody Harris writes about her top takeaways from Jessica’s presentation about The Gift of Failure.

Senior School Athletics Highlights

Crofton Falcons are in the thick of it with strong finishes at championship tournaments over the past couple of weeks.

In their Independent Schools Athletic Association (ISAA) championships, our Senior II Field Hockey team and Varsity Field Hockey team both won silver medals. Crofton House hosted the ISAA Varsity championships and welcomed Ridley College from St Catherines, Ontario. The Varsity team also competed in the 2018 Bridgman Cup, one of the oldest field hockey tournaments in North America, from October 5-7 and received a bronze medal. Go Falcons Go!

As for our volleyball athletes, the Bantam, Junior, and Varsity teams all won silver medals at their ISAA championships. The Bantam Volleyball team also competed in the annual Great Cake Tournament and won second place, while our Varsity Volleyball team won a silver medal at the 2018 Western Canadian Independent School’s Volleyball Championships. Here’s a video preview, created by Michelle Kwok '16, of what to expect at their ISAA championship at CHS this weekend.

Last but not least, our Cross Country team received a bronze medal at their Zone Championships and four of our athletes have qualified to compete in the BC Provincials Cross Country Championship.

Junior School Athletics Highlights

Twenty-eight Grade 5 volleyball athletes participated in the ISEA Play Day at Mulgrave School on Wednesday.

Finally, 34 cross country runners competed in the 2018 ISEA Cross Country Championships on Thursday. The Grade 3 and Grade 6 team placed first, while the grade 4 team placed second. The Grade 7 team took third place and the Grade 5 team took fourth. Congratulations!

Thank you to our parents for being the number one supporters of our athletes, driving them to practices and tournaments, and cheering them on in the stands!

CHS Marching Band

The Grade 8 and 9 band class have completed a marching band unit. The girls memorized three pieces ("March to Buckingham Palace", "Disney's Magical Marches", and "The Maple Leaf Forever") and played them as they marched around Kent Field. There are lots of benefits to marching, including developing memory and coordination skills, discipline, and teamwork. It's also fun and a great experience for the students! The students have now put their marching aside to prepare for the All Bands Winter Concert on November 28.
