Born in Caracas, Venezuela, she was recognized as one of the top 100 scholars in the country during high school. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Economics, she received a full-tuition scholarship to the University of Chicago for Public Policy, followed by her second master's from Bank Street College of Education.

She has also expanded health services to include a dental office.

Cristina has established partnerships with NYU Langone, Sunset Park CAB (Community Advisory Board), Together Growing Strong, ParentCorps, and the Center for Family Life. She is also a founding member of the Sunset Park Food Coalition Committee and the Sunset Park Tech Advocacy Group.
