Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR)

Chief Smith recently shared with the Police Foundation the positive outcomes resulting from the implementation of Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) cameras, which were generously funded by the Foundation. These cameras have proven to be highly effective in enhancing the department's law enforcement efforts.

At present, two new ALPR cameras have been strategically positioned at the entrances to the town, both north and south on US-1. These locations have proven instrumental in monitoring and documenting incoming vehicles, aiding in the prevention and detection of criminal activities. The Police Department has already observed significant improvements in their ability to identify stolen vehicles, apprehend individuals with outstanding warrants, and swiftly respond to incidents of concern.

Once a County permit is received a third camera will be installed on the Intracoastal bridge. This camera will provide comprehensive coverage of the town's major access points, ensuring a heightened level of safety and security for residents and visitors alike.

The Foundation continues to play a pivotal role in empowering the Police Department to stay at the forefront of crime prevention, maintain a safe environment, and leverage the latest advancements in law enforcement technology within the community.
