Pause and refresh

Parenting can be hard. This month we want to encourage you that you are doing a great job! Whether you are loving being a mum, dad or carer right now, or if you’re finding it extra hard – that’s OK. Every time you still pack their lunch, kiss them goodnight or even just sit and watch Peppa Pig with them for the fiftieth time – you’re doing it. You are loving them, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

And when you ask God for strength to help you, when you pause to pray or rest in him – you’re building a foundation of faith that your children can see.

Sometimes it may feel like you’ve completely forgotten about being intentional about bringing God into your home. The wonderful thing about our loving God is that his mercies are new every morning, and he will provide opportunities each and every day. He will strengthen you and help you keep going even when it all feels a bit much.

With a few weeks left before the summer holidays, you might be preparing for a break or be busy finishing up projects before having children at home all the time. In the midst of that preparation maybe you could find time to recharge spiritually, setting aside some time to rest in God and ask for his supernatural peace and strength to carry you.

"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.  And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." Ephesians 4:16-19

And perhaps there will be aspects of what God speaks to you that you can share with your family, passing on the stories of his goodness and faithfulness to you personally.

Is there a specific verse or passage in the Bible that you turn to when life is hard or you are struggling to know how to spend time with God?

Write it down and put it up somewhere visible as a reminder of drawing on God’s strength. And chat about it with your family too – they might benefit from it as well!
