We are increasing our capabilities in face-to-face service.

Volunteer Referral Officers go statewide

We are expanding our very successful Referral Officer team. Members of this team act as 'matchmakers' for potential volunteers and organisations, taking great care to find the perfect fit.

We believe there is a role for everyone, and there is that special someone for every role.

Our referral service will be operating in a location near you very soon, but until then, interviews are being conducted from our Hobart office and over the phone every week.

Are you interested in volunteering as a Volunteer Referral Officer for Volunteering Tasmania? We'd love to have you on board!

You can find out more here.

Expert staff who'd love to meet you

For assistance with volunteer management, volunteer engagement, and training, our Volunteer Management Consultants are here to help!

Have you met Wayne (North), Lana (North West), and David (South)? If not, drop them a line - they love a good chat.

For all things volunteering in Tasmania, we are your one-stop-shop. Don't be a stranger!

Useful information available online

Did you know that we have information available to help you on our website?

We are currently undertaking a collateral review, to update the look and feel of our documents, and more importantly, to make sure the information remains current.

Our Publications page contains helpful information, and will be regularly updated every time a new document is approved.

As an example, you can check out our Background checks Factsheet here.

Work for the Dole

At our Roundtables last year, many of you spoke about your concerns about the impact of changes to mutual obligation (Work for the Dole) arrangements and the impact on Volunteer Involving Organisations

We have been raising our concerns about the impact of these changes on the volunteering sector through discussions with important stakeholders, letters and other correspondence, and the media.

Our May Network meetings focussed on this important issue, and were very well attended.

If you would like to discuss this issue, please contact Wayne (North), Lana (North West) or David (South).

We will continue to advocate for the sector, and will keep you up to date in further editions of this newsletter.

Attention all Volunteer Connect users!

If you utilise the free Volunteer Connect/VIKTOR service, please make sure your insurance details are up to date.

We are still receiving alerts that several users have not updated their insurance details.

Please ensure you log in and update them immediately - it is mandatory to keep insurance details up to date in this system, for the protection of volunteers and organisations alike.

Best wishes, Tony Reidy, and thank you for your support

As many of you are aware, TasCOSS CEO Tony Reidy will be retiring as CEO from July 2015.

Like many other community sector organisations, we will be sad to lose Tony from this role. He has led the sector through many changes in government, and has continued to be the voice of the community sector through many challenging times.

We have particularly appreciated Tony’s interest in our work and the invaluable role volunteers, managers of volunteers and volunteer involving organisations play in supporting the Tasmanian community.

We wish him the best of luck in his next stage of life.

Abstracts now open for the National Volunteering Conference 2016

Volunteering Australia is calling for innovative ideas to shape a strong volunteering sector.

‘We are inviting people to submit abstracts for the next National Volunteering Conference. We are looking for innovative ideas from practitioners to build a quality program that will provide delegates with strategies to future proof their volunteer workforce’ said Brett Williamson OAM, CEO of Volunteering Australia.

The conference will be held at the National Convention Centre Canberra from 6 – 8 April 2016 and is proudly sponsored by Beyond Bank Australia.

The Conference is the principal Australian forum for not for profit leaders, volunteer managers, policy contributors and corporates to come together to build knowledge, innovation, networks and leadership to advance volunteering.

Early bird registrations are also open, with an announcement of two accomplished keynote speakers: Dr Brendan Nelson and Susan J. Ellis.

The 1 June open date gives delegates the opportunity to register prior to the end of the financial year.

Presenters are invited to submit abstracts under the four themes of: build knowledge, build innovation, build networks and build leadership.

To register or submit an abstract, go to www.2016nationalvolunteeringconference.com.au

Australian of the Year Awards now open for nominations

Traditionally, Tasmania has had a low rate of nominations for this wonderful award.

Nominations are now open, and it would be wonderful to see more Tasmanians included this year.

Queensland University of Technology researches volunteering

Associate Professor Stuart Tooley from the Queensland University of Technology is undertaking research that investigates the extent to which NFP organisations currently record and report volunteer contributed services.

The study also explores the motivations that underpin current practices.

Stuart would greatly appreciate your assistance with his research project by completing his online questionnaire.
