Classes will begin on Monday, August 22. Please keep our students in your prayers, for those that are just starting their higher education endeavors and those that are nearing completion here at DBU. Pray that our students will seek Christ in moments of joy and hardship, persist academically and find community on campus. As I look forward to the next few weeks, I am so happy that I will see many of your faces soon at the Yellow Ribbon Luncheon, serving at a FLOW Luncheon with the international students, or at upcoming committee meetings! We remain deeply grateful for your continued support of DBU through your prayers, service, and giving. Keep reading to discover a few of the upcoming opportunities to be involved with the DBU Women’s Auxiliary Board in the days ahead! This year we want each of you to consider how you can pray, serve, and give supporting DBU through the Women's Auxiliary Board. Here are some practical ways to become involved this fall: Wednesday, August 17 is Move-In Day! In nationwide surveys of students who drop out of college, one of the most frequent reasons students give is that they do not feel a sense of belonging. Pray that our new students will feel at home quickly. Pray that the Resident Assistants in each hall will find innovative ways to help new students make deep friendships and bond with others this fall. Pray for our new and continuing international students as they face long spans of time away from family and friends. Pray that the Lord will create opportunities for meaningful personal connections and for the diverse needs of international students will be met. Pray that God would use DBU to reveal their calling and purpose for their lives. Pray for Erin Smith, Director of Admissions, and the rest of the DBU Admissions team. Pray that the details of enrollment for each student are taken care of so that students can start school without the worry of financial details. Pray for energy and enthusiasm as the staff will wrap up this enrollment cycle and immediately begin the 2023-2024 enrollment cycle. PRAYER REQUESTS For the 2022-2023 year, the DBU Women's Auxiliary Board Staff, Chaplain, Patty Lovvorn, and our Executive Committee are committing to pray for the needs of our member's and their loved ones. Please let us know how we can pray for you by following this link: Prayer Request Form
Please GIVE to the Book Fund for First Generation Students! In 2022, the Women's Auxiliary Board will focus on some of the needs of DBU students and how members can help meet these needs. Students who are the first students to attend college in their families are termed "first generation" or "first gen students." These students are amazing and brave, and often will have needs that go unnoticed as parents and family members have not had the college experience to assist them with their new college environment. One of those needs is often books for their first semester in college. A student will normally spend $300-$500 per semester on books, not a small amount for a new student! We are raising funds to assist these students with their books. Each year DBU has approximately 95 first generation students in the freshman class each year. Helping student obtain their books helps them be prepared and ahead of the game when they start classes this fall. How can you contribute? A gift of any amount could encourage students in their academic achievement! Click here to give to the Women's Auxiliary Board First Generation Book Fund: DBU GiveCampus. Instructions: Under Designation, click Student Scholarships and Type 'WAB'. New Student Reception The new student reception is hosted at the DBU President's Home on campus each year as the new students arrive on campus. This reception welcomes the students to University Hill, and the Women's Auxiliary Board supports Candice Wright, DBU First Lady, hosting this special event. We had so many people sign up to serve at New Student Reception so as of now, we are full for this event! We are grateful for your willingness to serve! Yellow Ribbon Luncheon Save the date! This annual fall luncheon celebrates the new academic year and introduces new programs and goals of the University to members and guests. To RSVP, follow this link: Yellow Ribbon Luncheon FLOW - Free Lunch On Wednesdays The Women's Auxiliary Board provides lunch and serves twice per year at Baptist Student Ministry FLOW day for DBU students with an emphasis on international students. DBU Homecoming Week Save the date for our 2022 DBU Homecoming Week! More information on activities, events, and times, will be confirmed as we move closer to the date! We hope to see you on University Hill! Ruth Awards Christmas Luncheon Our Ruth Awards Luncheon honors women in the community who exemplify the character traits of Ruth from the Bible. This annual Christmas tradition is always a favorite of our members as we hear the Christian testimonies of ladies who love the Lord and support DBU wholeheartedly. Graduating International Reception The Women's Auxiliary Board hosts two semi-annual receptions, in May and December, for graduating international students and their families. I am looking forward to these exciting events for the 2022-2023 year. Please let me know if I can be of help to you and yours. Thankful for each of you! Mrs. Leslie Moulton |
