Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the State Shipments for June 2018.

Here are a few key findings:

  • Total beer shipment volume declined by 3.8% during June 2018, which had one fewer selling day compared to June 2017.
  • On a selling-day adjusted basis, beer shipment volume increased by 0.7% in June – a substantial improvement over the year-to-date trend of negative 2.7%.
  • Distributor inventories had been running below normal in many states at the end of May, particularly in the Midwest.  These states experienced an inventory correction in June, resulting in positive shipment trends.
  • Inventory levels were normal in states that had normal weather in May, such as those along the West Coast and in the Southeast.  These states’ shipment trends in June were much more consistent with their long-run trajectories.
