In May, CPC hosted and participated in a number of events for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. In celebrating the heritage of many of our community members, we also sought to raise their voices to leaders and decision makers so that the very real and diverse realities they face are heard. These activities included:
On May 17th, 2018, CPC held its first ever City Advocacy Day. As the nation's largest Asian American social services agency, CPC used the day to highlight key issues facing Chinese Americans, immigrants, low-income communities, and communities of color.
President & CEO Wayne Ho explained the history of the Asian American community in the United States as well as the growth and needs of the Asian American community of New York City.
Homecrest SACCC at P.S. 153's participant Anastasiia Sergienko was named the "Water Champion" at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection's 32nd Annual Water Resources Art & Poetry Contest. Anastasiia is in 3rd grade.
CPC's Beacon Community Center was recently selected by the Partnership for After School Education (PASE) to serve as a host site for a 2018 Summer Teaching Fellow.
The Asian Pacific Islander (API) community is the fastest growing population of new yearly HIV diagnoses, but people fear getting tested and finding out their result because of stigma against the disease. In honor of National API HIV Awareness Day, CPC HIV/AIDS Services hosted a workshop to discuss how we can end the stigma HIV/AIDS within the API community.
CPC's Service Learning Initiative Visits Boston College In April, participants from CPC's Service Learning Initiative had the opportunity to visit Boston College. For many students, this was their first trip to Massachusetts and the Boston area.
