Ghost Focus: Double Exposures & Apparitions in Nineteenth-Century Photography

Join Dr Emily Eastgate Brink, Assistant Professor at the University of Western Australia and specialist in eighteenth and nineteenth-century art, for a fascinating lecture about spirit photography in Victorian times. This talk will explore the ghost photograph as a double portrait and a convenient fiction, while also questioning its role as a document of the living and the dead.

Spooks & Spectres: Tales From Parallel Worlds

Writer, performer and story-teller extraordinaire, Finn O’Branagáin leads visitors on a journey through the darkened chambers and secret spaces of Dead Ringer, drawing on its unsettling tales of ghosts, doppelgängers, changelings and missing twins.

This FREE tour is made for those have heard things go bump in the night, who listen for echoes in the dark or who look behind paintings on hotel walls for secret messages left behind.

Pet Portraits with Elizabeth Marruffo

Make a magical portrait of your pet with local artist Elizabeth Maruffo. Using needle-felting techniques you will learn how to create a tiny, soft model of your pet for you to keep forever. Please bring along a photo of your family’s pet, a pet you used to have or a favourite animal friend.

Mono-printing with Monique Curby

Be inspired by the portraits, doubles and look-alikes in Dead Ringer and create your own series of ghostly portraits with experienced printmaker Monique Curby! After exploring mono-printing techniques you will work back into your prints with drawing media to produce a collection of unique portraits.
