CIO Conversion

Last month, Parliament approved the conversion process enabling charitable companies to convert to Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) status. A staged roll-out has been announced starting from 1 Jan 2018 with the good news that the phased implementation starts with the smallest organisations (initially accepting applications from organisations with an annual income of less than £12,500). The Charity Commission has issued guidance outlining the recent changes and details of the application process.

Preparing a Budget – free webinar

As part of their Small Charities Programme initiative, Charity Finance Group is in the process of releasing a series of free webinars on key financial topics to help small groups and charities. The first one has been issued which covers how to prepare a budget. You can access the webinar from the dedicated page on CFG’s website where you can also find a range of useful tools - including one from WYCAS - to help you budget

More Budgeting! – free budgeting template tool

Our community accounting partners at CA Plus, which like WYCAS also produce a range of useful free finance tools, have just updated their budgeting template.   Their spreadsheet tool helps make sure that when you work out the costs of an activity or project - either for a funding bid or as part of your organisation's budget process - you include all the costs. The tool allows you to budget for up to 6 separate projects, activities or departments.

Some e-learning for the New Year?

The next cohort of our Level 3 accredited Financial Practice and Procedures e-learning course starts on 29 January. The course covers the core elements of good financial management and is suitable for trustees, finance workers, volunteer treasurers and anyone else in the third sector interested in developing their financial management knowledge and skills. The cost is £500 per participant for accreditation and you could use the training part of any grant funding to pay for this. There is further information about the course together with learner feedback on our dedicated web page.
