Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the April 2018 Domestic Tax Paid Estimate.

Below find a few key points provided by our Chief Economist, Michael Uhrich:

  • Domestic beer shipment volume increased by 1.3% in raw terms during April of this year, which gained one selling day compared to April of 2017.
  • On a selling day adjusted (SDA) basis, domestic beer volume decreased by 3.6% in April.
  • Much of April’s sizeable SDA decline was due to near record-low temperatures across much of the country, especially in the Midwest.
  • April beer sales also suffered due to this year’s early Easter. The holiday was two weeks earlier this year than it was in 2017, and all of its corresponding sell-in took place in March rather than in April.

If you have any questions, please contact Michael at either 202-737-2337 or muhrich@beerinstitute.org.
