MightyData is excited to be presenting sessions at DevCon this year. Kirk Bowman, Anders Monsen and Darren Burgess will be attending the conference in Miami Beach, FL. They are looking forward to learning new knowledge to share with our customers. Additionally, we will be assisting at the Visionary Bar and the FM Academy booth. Here's what our schedule looks like:
Bare Bones PHP, Monday, July 16, 8am-12:30pm
This intermediate-level class consists of 2 back-to-back sessions and is being led by Kirk Bowman and Anders Monsen. Even if you are already registered for DevCon, you will have to sign up for these classes additionally as they are part of the PreCon sessions being offered before the official conference begins.

7th Annual Women of FileMaker Lunch at DevCon
by Susan Fennema
Even though I will not be attending DevCon this year, I wanted to help get the word out for one of my favorite annual meetings! If you’re going to DevCon, and you’re female, you should definitely attend this event.
The 7th annual Women of FileMaker Lunch is free and provides an excellent opportunity for women to network at DevCon. This year, the event is Tuesday, July 17, Noon – 2 pm in the Fleur de Lis Ballroom. Please register!

Getting Faster: Create a Developer's Reference
by Darren Burgess
As a developer looking to deliver projects to my customers with the highest value, I am constantly looking for ways to increase my development speed. To that end I have created a developers’ reference library using a handy (and free) little application called Notational Velocity. NV is an OS X application that allows for rapid creation and search of notes. While I have not tested such, apparently
ResophNotes is an equivalent Windows application. Both applications sync with SimpleNote, so you can get your notes on the web and on an iOS device.

More About Reference Tools
by Anders Monsen
The recent post from my fellow MightyData
developer, Darren Burgess, caused me to reflect on my own developer reference tool. This is a tool I built using FileMaker, since there were times I needed the function reference offline, or without a floating help window. I built this tool a few years ago starting just with calculation functions, then adding more reference sections to keep everything in one place.

Why I Use Basecamp
by Susan Fennema
Up until recently, MightyData has been using Mantis to track issues to solve, along with an internally created FileMaker
to-do list that we call MightyTask. Early this year, we decided to take another look at Basecamp.

Leads are Seeds
by David Weisiger
I will have been in my position at MightyData, as THE salesman or cleverly named Manager of First Impressions, for one year on July 5. It has been pointed out that I am the only team member that has not posted a blog, so it is time I get on it. I have learned a lot about our business, sales and FileMaker
in the last year, but the one thing I find most valuable when talking to customers and colleagues is the use of the almighty METAPHOR. Read more.
Omitting Someone (or Something) on Twitter
by Kirk Bowman
I use the “column” feature in TweetDeck
to follow various topics on Twitter. Recently, someone started using a Twitter handle that includes a keyword I use frequently to monitor custom software development. Unfortunately, their tweets have very little to do with the topic. Most of them are personal comments between professional colleauges. Being a database guy, I decided to look at the search help
to see if there is a way to exclude a specific search term. (Click on the “operators” link to view a table of search operators.)

FileMaker 12 Product Line Is Available!
FileMaker Inc. (FMI) released the new FileMaker 12 product line. This release includes new versions of FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Server and FileMaker Go.
The most important thing to know is this version introduces a new file format (.fmp12 instead of .fp7). This means once you convert a database to FileMaker 12, you cannot go back to an earlier version.
If your FileMaker Maintenance is active, you should be receiving an email from FMI to download the new version. In the meantime, our advice is to learn about the new product line and carefully plan a transition to it. If you are not sure whether you have FileMaker Maintenance or have questions about moving to FileMaker 12, give Dave Weisiger a call at 972-390-8600 x103.
