As a bronze-level partner of NZPF, Smokefree Schools will have an exhibition stand at the national conference from 6-9 April.  There will be a sneak preview of the new resources Learning Media Ltd is currently developing.  These will comprise a planning tool for Boards of Trustees and senior management teams, and a Years 7 & 8 series of teaching modules. We are also offering principals the opportunty to order FREE signage when they visit our Smokefree Schools stand.

Atua Banners

Atua Banners

Principals who attended their Queenstown Conference in 2010 will remember the beautiful Nga Atua banners in the main auditorium. Not surprisingly we had many requests to buy them. If you are still interested, contact Speedy Signs for a very competitive quote.

ASH Year 10 Snapshot Survey

ASH Year 10 Snapshot Survey

All schools with Year 10 students have been invited to participate in the ASH Year 10 Snapshot Survey 2011 in Term 2 (this is part of the New Zealand Youth Tobacco Monitor). Nearly 30,000 Year 10 students in New Zealand participate each year. Each school will receive their school prevalence data, which can then be compared to the national statistics on Year 10 tobacco use.

One nominated teacher coordinates the distribution and return of the surveys and the survey is administered in class by teachers to all Year 10 classes. The one-page questionnaire only takes about 10 minutes to fill out. We request that students are not told in advance about the subject or sponsor of the survey in order to avoid any discussion, and therefore bias in answers.

Important dates ASH Year 10 Snapshot Survey 2011
Letters and emails sent to schools - February
Consent form due date -1 June
Survey conducted in schools – On a date convenient for schools sometime between 30 May -14 July (Term 2)
Schools receive their school-level prevalence figures -Term 4

Schools in earthquake affected areas will be contacted shortly to discuss how we may be able to cater the survey to your individual school circumstances.

For further information about the survey, please contact Chrissie Urlich at ASH on 09 520 4866, email curlich@ash.org.nz
