RSM now a Bill Payee with major banks

Radio Spectrum Management has been set-up as a Bill Payee with major banks in New Zealand.  This will enable licensees to use the correct bank account and payment references when paying annual licence fees through Internet banking.

As Internet banking is considered an online payment method, licensees will receive a discount.  The discounted amount a licensee will need to pay is detailed on the bottom of their invoice.

More details can be found on the How do I? > Pay for licence fees page.

Radiocommunications Regulations (General User Radio Licence for Cordless Telephones) Notice 2017

The Radiocommunications Regulations (General User Radio Licence for Cordless Telephones) Notice has been updated and sets an end date for the PHS band (1895-1920 MHz).  The General User Radio Licence is valid from 1 March 2017 and the new Notice will be published in the Gazette on Thursday 2 March 2017.

Applications received for managed spectrum park licences

Applications have been received for licences for radio spectrum in the 2.5 GHz Managed Spectrum Park band.  Potential uses for this spectrum include wireless broadband services.

Parties interested in utilising this spectrum are able to apply for access on a first-come, first-served basis, but with sharing processes required to be negotiated by applicants. Applications have been received by the Crown Spectrum Asset Manager from:

  • VelocityNet Ltd, for licences with coverage in parts of the Southland and Gore District TLA areas.
  • Amuri Net Ltd, for licences with coverage in parts of the Marlborough, Kaikoura, Hurunui and Waimakariri District TLA areas

Read more about these applications for managed spectrum park licences in Notice 47.

Just part of the job

When RSM Compliance radio inspector Nathan Schaffer is not monitoring the radio spectrum, he is fighting fires.  Nathan was one of a team of volunteer fire fighters who helped contain the eight fires ravaging the Port Hills in Christchurch that damaged many houses and came close to Sugar Loaf and Marleys Hill radio towers.
