ACADEMIC INTERVIEW: NICK CLIFFORD

Professor Nicholas Clifford, Geography Head of Department, Earth & Envirionmental Dynamics research group

Why do you love geography?
Because done well, it is one of the most complex, integrative and challenging subjects.

What are your research passions?
Rivers, landscape evolution; environmental processes; history and philosophy of the (earth) sciences.

Which undergraduate courses do you teach?
River Processes and management (combined UGT and PGT)

Why did you choose to work at King's?
Because it is one of the world’s great academic institutions for learning and research; because of its world-beating location; and because there is still so much potential for innovation and initiative. All these combine to give access to excellent resourcing and a quality student-base with which to interact.

Your secret London tip?
With due regard to safety, take some time to look upwards as you walk around: London is a remarkably 3D city, and some of its best vistas are above street level!  Also, don’t forget, you are in one of the world’s great river cities!
