New Tennis Complex Opens

Scots tennis teams played their first home matches on Covenant’s campus this March. After years of hosting home matches at local high schools and clubs, the Scots brought their competition up the mountain to Covenant’s six brand new tennis courts. Complete with lighting and a new pedestrian path, the tennis complex enables Covenant’s NCAA Division III tennis teams to host home matches on campus.

Rangemark Wins $10,000 at Seed Project

Each year, students and first-year alumni have an opportunity to participate in Covenant’s Seed Project, a competition created to encourage entrepreneurship at Covenant.  This year, Kathryn Allison ’13 won $10,000 in seed capital for her business, Rangemark. Rangemark designs and produces unique, hand-printed textile products using organic materials.  Ryan Leestma ’00, founder of Information Systems Intelligence, represented his alma mater by providing business coaching to all the participants throughout the competition.
 



Houston Alumni Gathering During General Assembly

Chapel services remain one of the cornerstones of life as a Covenant student. From near and far, you can listen to all of our chapel talks online by streaming them on SoundCloud. Chapel talks are also available for download on your smartphone via the iTunes podcast app.
 



Art Barn Closing

Following recent investigations of the Art Barn by facilities management and a structural engineer, the College has closed the Art Barn for the foreseeable future. Some art studio space is being slated for relocation to the basement of Carter Hall, and the College is studying the possibility of a new art facility. Last week, students and professors gathered at the Art Barn to recount favorite memories of the building and how it helped shape them in their artistic pursuits. Covenant’s 59th Annual Commencement

Covenant College welcomed 249 new alumni at the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10. Families and friends of students joined Covenant's faculty and staff to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2014. Prof. John Holberg delivered the commencement address. Community Development Reunion

This spring, community development alumni gathered in Atlanta for a reunion.  President Halvorson and community development faculty joined alumni from around the country at the reunion. The event was a collaboration of the alumni office, the community development department, and the Chalmers Center, and was held in conjunction with the Chalmers Center’s annual Global Leadership Network weekend.
 



Scots Baseball Clinches USA South

In their inaugural year in the NCAA Division III, the Scots were projected as number one in the USA South and lived up to their reputation. The team clinched the regular season USA South conference title at the end of April. They are competing in the regional NCAA tournament this week.
 



Covenant Awarded Sportsmanship Trophy

Scots softball, baseball, women’s basketball, men’s soccer, and men’s tennis teams were all awarded the USA South Sportsmanship Award for their respective sports. As a result, Covenant College was presented with the 2014 USA South Sportsmanship Award. Sportsmanship awards are decided based on votes from team members in the USA South conference.
 



Speech & Debate Society Concludes Strong Season

Covenant’s Speech & Debate Society ended its 2013-14 season during spring break at the National Christian College Forensics Invitational in California. The team earned many awards throughout the season, and brought home several awards from the national tournament.
 



Day of Stewardship

Covenant observed its third annual Day of Stewardship in March, celebrating our role as stewards of God’s gifts. Dr. Lance Wescher spoke in chapel on stewardship and generosity, and students were given copies of a generosity guide, giving them the opportunity to take inventory of their time, knowledge, and assets in an effort to broaden their understanding of generosity.
