This free seminar will spotlight Successful Dropout Prevention: IDRA Coca-Cola Valued Youth Program

See how La Joya ISD has been successfully implementing the program for more than two decades!

The research-based IDRA Coca-Cola Valued Youth Program is an internationally-acclaimed dropout prevention model started by IDRA in San Antonio. La Joya ISD has implemented the Coca-Cola Valued Youth Program for 22 years. It has grown across the country, including Detroit, New York (the Bronx), Chicago, Los Angeles, Sacramento, among other cities.

Since its inception in 1984, the program has kept 33,200 students in school, young people who were previously considered at risk of dropping out. The lives of more than 654,000 children, families and educators have been positively impacted by the program. The design is based on IDRA research on the dropout issue and school holding power.

  • See the program in action.
  • Learn about funding sources.
  • Take care of your students who are most at risk.

At this special event, designed for educators, administrators and community members on December 1, we will meet at the La Joya ISD District Office for an overview of the Coca-Cola Valued Youth Program and then proceed to Camarena Elementary School for a school tour where you can see the program in action. We will then return to La Joya ISD District Office for lunch where you can hear more about how cross-age tutoring can help your school prevent students from dropping out.

The Coca-Cola Valued Youth Program was recently named a national Hispanic Education “Bright Spot” by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics (September 2015). La Joya ISD has implemented the Coca-Cola Valued Youth Program for 22 years impacting thousands of students. The success of the program in La Joya ISD, as well as other districts, helped to provide an avenue for IDRA Coca-Cola Valued Youth Program National Hispanic “Bright Spot” Award. Special thanks to La Joya ISD and to Dr. Benavides for their great support and dedication to the program and to the success of all students.
