Following the record-breaking success of EDG’s tour of Dressing Downton and CUT! Costume and the Cinema, EDG presents Jane Austen: Fashion & Sensibility, the latest costume exhibition poised to drive the attendance of your devoted, historically-astute and fashion-loving demographic.

For the past two hundred years, the novels of Jane Austen have been read, studied, and cherished by millions of readers around the world, with many of the most-beloved gracing the silver screen in the past century. Featuring up to 48 captivating costumes worn by actors including Gwyneth Paltrow, Colin Firth, Dame Judi Dench, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Jonny Lee Miller, and more, the exhibition will transport visitors back to the Regency period to rediscover the drama and romance of these timeless novels. Drawn from the collection of Oscar and BAFTA-award winning London costumier Cosprop Ltd., these stunning costumes frame the exhibition’s powerful themes of class, gender, and character dynamics in Austen’s world and provide visitors the unforgettable opportunity to view the costumes of some of their favorite Hollywood actors up close.

Transport your visitors to the early 20th century as they relive their favorite memories and nostalgia of the costumes of Downton Abbey, a British-American television series and major motion picture set on the eponymous fictional English country estate. The series explores the lives of its aristocratic inhabitants and their servants – together with the latest fashion trends. Through 35 bespoke costumes created for the series, the exhibition presents a fashion history of the period surrounding World War I, a period that changed the social fabric of Great Britain. A fine selection from the series’ wardrobe, including accessories and mannequins, reflects on the changing times through fashion from 1912 to the mid-1920s.
