SPRING WINEMAKER DINNERS
For those who like to celebrate the season. If you love the idea of enjoying first-of-the-season halibut with a Sauvignon Blanc, a local geoduck paired with a lovely Grenache, or a bacon wrapped venison loin served with a robust Cabernet Sauvignon, these dinners are for you!
Join winegrower and owner Chad Johnson of Dusted Valley as he combines forces with Chef Mitch Mayer of Sawyer, 2019 James Beard Semifinalist for "Best New Restaurant". Now celebrating its 15th year of winemaking, Dusted Valley’s Award-Winning wines bring old world structure to bright new world fruit. They are a perfect pair for the approachability of Sawyer's whimsical and comforting food.
“Winemaker to watch” Kevin White is joined by 2019 James Beard “Best Chef in the Northwest” semifinalist Eric Donnelly, for an evening of Rhone-inspired wines joined by the lean meats and bold flavors from FlintCreek Cattle Co. Enjoy limited production hand-crafted wines and a menu sourced from small-scale farms, to see for yourself that great things truly do come in small (scaled) packages.
Latta Wines have been lauded as a “Washington gamechanger…altering the landscape of northwest wine”, so it’s fitting that they’ll be combining forces with Rider, the restaurant that celebrates the region’s most defining characteristics: the forest and the ocean. Small-lot wines will be paired with big flavors, some coming right from the open woodfired grill, to bring you a dinner you won’t soon forget.
Boutique winery owner Kevin Correll is on a mission to focus on terroir by producing 100% varietals, and Barrage Cellars will be pouring their wines where dining is elevated at Ascend Prime Steak & Sushi. With two partners so singularly focused on perfection, the views won't be the only thing to take your breath away.
EFESTĒ's hand-crafted wines using minimalist techniques are the perfect blend with Lark’s small plates highlighting products featuring local farmers and producers. Glasses of wines and plates of seasonally-inspired foods will be shared at the table during this dinner celebrating the best of the Northwest.

VINTNER SPOTLIGHT:
W.T. Vintners
The old adage “great wine is made in the vineyard” is at the root of W.T. Vintners. Winemaker Jeff Lindsay-Thorsen works to be the conduit from which the vineyards speak, and he strives for his wines to serve as the champions of Washington’s extraordinary terroir. He does this through utilizing whole clusters during fermentation, working closely with the vineyard’s manager to reduce crop load, and by picking grapes early, to avoid high alcohols and overtly fruity wines. This attention to detail has resulted in Jeff landing on Wine Enthusiast Magazine's "40 Under 40" list and his wines a spot on lists including Seattle Met's “30 Most Exciting Wines” and
Forbes' “9 Essential Washington Wines to Try”. “Ultimately, I attempt to make the wines I want to drink; wines of place, wines that compliment a meal and wines that tell a story.” Says Lindsay-Thorsen. “I want them to be as delicious as they are interesting. Most importantly, I want our customers, our friends and our families to reach for another glass.”
BENEFICIARY SPOTLIGHT:
Washington State University
The Auction of Washington Wines plays a key role in advancing cutting-edge science to help Washington wine grape farmers and winemakers grow and make the best wine possible.
Financial support from AWW helps fund a variety of projects at Washington State University, including developing vineyard management strategies to deal with grapevine viruses, optimizing irrigation techniques, and providing a better understanding of grape maturity and ripeness. Recent research work done by Dr. James Harbertson, WSU enology professor, in collaboration with other scientists included studying different maturity stages of wine grapes to learn what influences sensory properties. The research findings that alcohol concentrations outweigh the influence of fruit maturity will help winemakers understand when to pick their grapes and why.
