CPC CEO Appointed to NYC DOE School Diversity Advisory GroupCPC's President & CEO, Wayne Ho, has been appointed to the NYC Department of Education (DOE) School Diversity Advisory Group. The NYC DOE created the advisory group as a part of their Equality and Excellence for All agenda.
CPC Statement on the Passage of the Tax BillThe Senate and House both passed their tax bill for sweeping cuts and tax code revisions today. This tax bill represents a huge blow to the communities being served by the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC). CPC remains committed to promoting the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant and low-income communities. Now is the time to double our efforts on not only our social services work but also our social change work as we advocate for policies that protect and empower our communities.
Cathay Bank Foundation Supports Employment Training for Older AdultsWith the support of Cathay Bank Foundation, CPC Queens Community Services and Education and Career Services will support the employment needs of Chinese-Americans, immigrants and low-income individuals including seniors age 55 and over through employment planning, workshops, and training opportunities.
CPC Celebrates the Holiday SeasonMany CPC programs celebrated the holiday season with outreach events in the community, celebrating great partnerships with supporters, and visits with friends from the North Pole.
Learning Chess, Building ConfidenceOn December 2, 2017, students from CPC’s Homecrest SACC at P.S. 153 attended the 4th Annual NYC Dept. for Youth & Community Development (DYCD) Chess Masters Tournament. Azqa Faisal, Sebastian Valentin, and Roman Shamilev joined over two hundred students from DYCD programs across New York City for an all-day match at P.S. 11. With a score of 3.0, Roman received a medal for 25th place in the elementary open.
Return of the Victor E. Bull: CPC & University at Buffalo hosts 2nd On-site Decision dayProject Gateway College Counseling Center and University at Buffalo came together for a second Instant Decision Day at the CPC Queens Community Center on Thursday, November 30th, 2017. Of the 39 potential college seekers who attended the event, 20 of them received a conditional response while another 14 received acceptance letters.
Director of HIV/AIDS Services has been named a 2017 Health Rising FellowBinh V. Luu, director of HIV/AIDS Services has recently been announced as a 2017 Health Rising Leadership Fellow, one of only ten individuals across the country to receive this coveted honor.
