Some highlights of our meeting approving funding for a number of great-sounding community events from our Summer with your Neighbours fund. We also approved funding to Burnside High School towards the costs of students attending the Spirit of Adventure Trophy Voyage from our 2020/21 Youth Development Fund. Our Board recommended that Council retain the existing road layout on Cranford Street between Innes Road and Berwick Street. We also received our Community Board Area Report for September 2020, which provides us with an overview of all the great things going on in our area. Community Board recommend wait and see approach on extra road spaceThe Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board have recommended that Council retain the existing road layout on Cranford Street between Innes Road and Berwick Street. Parking would be retained and the additional street space will provide more room for cyclists using this stretch of Cranford Street. The Board's recommendation will now go to Council on 12 November for a final decision. You can read the latest project newsletter here. Cranford Street work nears completionMuch of the road work is now complete with Sherborne Street and Barbadoes Street back to two-way and a lot of tidy up work happening. The last areas to be finished will be the intersections of Cranford Street and Wesminster Street, Westminster Street and Forfar Street, and Forfar Street and Warrington Street. New living wall for Graham CondonA living wall has been installed on the outside of the Graham Condon Recreation and Sports Centre in Papanui for customers, employees and local residents to enjoy. A growing body of research has accumulated evidence of the physical and mental health benefits resulting from access and interaction with living walls. Community digs in at Cranford Basin planting eventThere was a fantastic turnout of volunteers for the city's first planting event in the Cranford Basin earlier this month, with just under 100 volunteers planting 3000 kahikatea. This is part of what will be the largest stand of kahikatea in the Ōtautahi-Christchurch area since pre-European times. The goal is to plant and establish 40,000 kahikatea trees in Cranford Basin over the next two years so lots more opportunity next season to get involved. It was a wonderful morning with lots of families – including board chair Emma Norrish and her whanau - with the event jointly run by Christchurch City Council, Trees for Canterbury and Conservation Volunteers New Zealand.
