Open Day is the best opportunity for future undergraduate and graduate students and their families to visit the VCA & MCM’s Parkville and Southbank campuses. The program for the day includes information sessions, performances, activities and the opportunity to visit classes. Guests can also speak with staff about admissions information.

Brazilian Guitar Extravaganza
22 August, 7pm

Virtuoso Brazilian guitarist, composer and arranger Paulo Aragão is joined by Doug de Vries, Ken Murray, Corey King and Sexteto Zona Sul for a special concert of Brazilian guitar music.

Paulo is the founding member of Maogani Guitar Quartet since 1995 and a winner of many music awards in Brazil. He has worked as arranger and composer for many leading Brazilian artists including Yamandu Costa, Mauricio Carrilho, Sergio Mendes and Guinga

Craig Eastman: A Strange Arrangement
1 - 17 August

Craig Easton’s project takes a sometimes circuitous route through the possibilities for reductive abstract painting as a contemporary visual language. Using video, sound, photography, object making and architectual intervention as mediums, the framing of reductive abstract painting's potential to operate as immersive form emerges.

This exhibition at the Margaret Lawrence Gallery is part of the VCA's PhD program.

Melba Hall Lunchtime Concert Series
28 July - 20 October

This semester the always popular series of free concerts, held in the newly renovated Melba Hall, features performances by; Alvin Wong and Kristian Chong, Joe Chindamo and Zoe Black, pianist Geoffrey Saba and guiatrist Xuefei Yang.

The concerts are held each Monday of semester from 1.10pm - 2pm.

Global Atelier - New York

Led by Head of Music Theatre Margot Fenley, five music theatre students experienced the music theatre scene in New York and had an opportunity to engage in masterclasses with some of the best in the business as part of the Faculty's Global Atelier program.

Opera students put on a performance for all children

Students from the Master of Music (Opera Performance) program have performed a ‘relaxed’ production of Hansel and Gretel, designed to make the opera accessible to children with sensory and communication disorders.

Jason Clarke
Bachelor of Dramatic Art

Actor Jason Clarke has worked on seven major Hollywood films in the last 18 months including: The Better Angels (opposite Diane Kruger), Child 44 (with Tom Hardy), Knight of Cups (which stars Christian Bale), Everest (with Jake Gyllenhaal) and Terminator: Genesis (with fellow Australian Jai Courtney and Arnold Schwarzenegger)

He is currently starring in Director Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Patricia Piccinini
Bachelor of Fine Art


Visual artist Patricia Piccinini was recognised by the Melbourne Art Foundation receiving the Artist Prize in its National Awards for the Visual Arts.

‘‘I’ve been working with the same sort of ideas for many years and I think over time I have become more sophisticated at dealing with them. I’m interested in ideas, not medium. It’s easy to cut across media to express what I’m interested in."

Ash Keating
Bachelor of Fine Art (Hons)


Visual artist Ash Keating has created a new community project, re-developing a former car park on A'Beckett St, Melbourne.

Keating has painted two eight-metre-high walls surrounding the park in several shades of green, using his signature method of spraying with compressed paint-filled fire extinguishers to create a large-scale, abstract splatter effect.
