Under Alert Level 2 most businesses can reopen to the public as long as they meet new public health requirements. Public facilities such as libraries, sport and recreation centres, swimming pools, museums and art galleries will reopen. The city’s playgrounds and attractions like New Brighton Pier have also reopened. Report an unsafe driverThere has been a significant increase in “boy racer” activity, especially around Lyttelton Harbour. When members of the public are concerned about traffic incidents or ant-social behaviour, they should ring Police on 555 to report the incidents. Parks and playgroundsPlaygrounds, public toilets and buildings within our parks and gardens are now open. Please remember to maintain physical distancing wherever you go. Also, please continue to keep your dog on a leash, and take your dog poo and any rubbish home with you. ![]() Vessels visiting Lyttelton PortUnder Alert Level 2, all inbound vessels, and vessels using the Dry Dock, will still be required to complete all LPC COVID-19 requirements and the health status of all incoming vessel crews will continue to be checked. Shore leave for vessel crews will only be permitted under Level 2 for vessels that are more than 14 days from their last foreign port or crew change, provided crews adhere to physical distancing and public health hygiene guidelines. Barrys Bay transfer station openBarrys Bay transfer station is open and operating under winter hours (12-4pm Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday). Please practise physical distancing when using the facilities. Community collection drop-off services in Banks Peninsula are available as normal. Book your visit to our pools and fitness centresOnline bookings are now essential for our pools, fitness centres and group fitness classes, to help manage numbers and avoid waiting times. You can book up to seven days ahead, and bookings are limited to one session per day, to keep it fair. An open book: All you need to know for your library visitOur libraries are now open.
