Editor's note

Just when it had gone a little quiet on the dual citizenship front, the High Court yesterday ruled Labor senator Katy Gallagher ineligible to hold her position. That in turn triggered four more resignations. As constitutional expert Anne Twomey writes, at least now we have clarity on how to interpret the controversial Section 44, but the only way to properly solve the problem will be by amending the constitution through a referendum.
And still on politics, today we begin our five-part series on the Australian intelligence and security landscape, examining how effectively it operates at a time of heightened anxiety. In the first two pieces, John Blaxland maps the intelligence community, while Bruce Baer Arnold argues that we need a better discussion about how much privacy we are willing to sacrifice in the name of
security.
