Mailout Soundtrack

The Saints play the Fly By Night, Friday! Double Pass...

Cool Perth Nights bring you the Big Splash. Band entries open this Saturday. Check Ongoing section below for the details. Your band can win $10,000.

Check the Breezy sounds of Allah Las here while the wind blows outside, while you check all that's going on in our fair town, while your life is completely cranking.

Tahlia Palmer, whilst admitting that her phone only functions as a music player & an alarm, pours her unique optimism into phone etiquette. Great to have TP back!

Lyndon Blue brings us Daramad's performance at Kulcha. Inspired & exhilarating singer Tara Tiba, who - alike all women - is forbidden from singing in her home Iran, is but part of this live performance review. Stunning layered detail yet again from Lyndon.

Amber Fresh has made another audio review. This time she takes us out to The Velvet Lounge & The Bird. The Cure & Massive Attack make up the soundtrack. Is there anyone at all alike to Amber Fresh? We think not.

Chris Bailey was short on words last week but this Friday he's sure to show all what he's good at. The Saints, supported by The Volcanics, play the Fly By Night this Friday & the first to respond here picks up a double pass.

Those of you who are free tomorrow night (Thurs Nov 29) there's a massive party at Amplifier featuring The Stafford Brothers. Drinks & snacks are complimentary & entry is free. But you must add yourself to the VIP guest list by RSVP here: rsvp@iris-worldwide.com

You can get on a train and close your eyes and emerge, like Dorothy in Oz, at the ceramic-swan-festooned Fremantle Station. And so here I am. A stairwell tucked between two cafés beckons. Kulcha floats above the street; from the balcony you can peer over neighbouring tin rooftops and antique façades. Sounds of buskers and cavorters, scents of pizza, coffee, ale and harbour breeze, rise to your...

tahlia palmer: steady eye

on phone etiquette

I must be the only 24 year old in the western world without a mobile phone. Hell, the only PERSON in the western world without a mobile phone. It’s certainly felt like that for the two months going to and from work every day, sitting on public transport listening to music or reading the ridiculously long and in-depth sci-fi/conspiracy theory book I’ve been working through since July, watching every other person on that god forsaken train at that godforsaken regular-person time of the morning checking their emails or their facebook every fucking 5 minutes...

no lights no lycra

at perth city farm, east perth

A dance night based on abandoning self-consciousness and professionalism through no lights and no talking as you bust a move, NLNL has finally hit Perth after incarnations across the Eastern States.

Whilst flirting and showing off are moves that are sacrificed, what emerges is self-confidence invested within the purity of dancing as well as a killer work-out to boot. Not to mention the uplifting sight of a town hall filled with shadowy apparitions shifting shapes to Getting Jiggy With It.

$5 from 7pm.

Ed: NLNL has moved to City Farm. But, don't forget there is an installment in Freo every Tuesday from 7:55pm, Scots Church, cnr South Tce & Parry St.

king of travellers

at clancy's, fremantle

KING OF THE TRAVELLERS is a 6 piece band from Fremantle, Western Australia. The group formed in the winter of 2012 by two brothers who, whilst on an extended break from their primary occupation of creating a machine which causes rain to fall upwards in an attempt to confuse and outrage ducks, went about writing new music and seeking out musicians to join the new project. With a line up quickly sorted and a handful of songs written, King of the Travellers began to take shape. Blending styles such as folk, punk and country and using a range of instruments including mandolin, French horn, and melodica, King of the Travellers have created a unique Pogues-style-drinking-music sound which will surely prove to be popular amongst old timey whalers.

avenue q

at the roleystone theatre, roleystone

November 28 and 30 and December 1

AVENUE Q is the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q; still, the neighbours seem nice. There's Brian the out-of-work comedian and his therapist fiancé Christmas Eve; Nicky the good-hearted slacker and his roommate Rod -- a Republican investment banker who seems to have some sort of secret; an Internet addict called Trekkie Monster; and a very cute kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate. And would you believe the building's superintendent is Gary Coleman?! Yes, that Gary Coleman. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life. The musical is notable for the use of puppets alongside human actors.

the eight: reindeer monologue

at lazy susan's comedy den, perth

Prepare to be offended – and see Santa’s reindeer like you’ve never seen them before.

Groovy Boots Theatre is presenting the WA premiere of The Eight: Reindeer Monologues at Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den in the lead-up to Christmas: a darkly comic tale of corruption, abuse and deviancy implicating the smallest elf right up to the jolly fat man himself.

Written by Jeff Goode and directed by Phil Barnett and Chris Thomas, this professional production of his critically-acclaimed work is described as “as all kinds of wrong” and definitely NOT for children.

A scandal erupts at the North Pole and each reindeer delivers clever, humorous and confronting monologues, dishing the real dirt on Santa’s perversions, Rudolph’s mental health, Vixen’s sexual harassment allegations and why Dancer no longer dances.

The Eight: Reindeer Monologues plays at 8pm, November 28, December 5, 6, 12 and 13 and 7pm, December 2, 9 and 16.

Tickets are $25, $20 concession plus booking and transaction fees – book through TAZ Tix on 9255 3336 or HERE. Please note: this show is strictly an adults-only event.
