June 30, 2016 - Texas Flood Recovery: Situation Report #3

For the past week and a half, Hope Force International [HFI] teams have persevered through the unending heat and humidity in Texas -- bringing encouragement and helping hands to those devastated by historic flooding. We've had the privilege of serving those who have been overlooked and under-served south of Houston, in the community of Holiday Lakes.

Dotted along the streets of this community are piles of debris as homeowners return to their waterlogged homes--only to pull out ruined furnishings, floor coverings and personal treasures. Sadly, families who have nowhere else to go continue to live in mold-infested homes, striving to make the best of a difficult situation.  Overall, we’ve been amazed and humbled by the positive attitude of the flood survivors as they look ahead with determination and strength.

Pastor Rick Wood and his wife have been displaced by the flooding. He graciously expressed his thoughts with us after our teams worked at removing damaged furnishings, drywall and flooring from his home.

Team Work -- removing the contents of a home that sustained water damage.

Mold has taken over in homes -- as water sat in some for a week or more before receding.

"Our day had a huge blessing in the person of Eva [homeowner served]. Connecting with her heart-to-heart was almost instant....  Our lives converged with us loving God and looking for HOPE in the terrible privilege of walking through disaster."

- Barb Eddy, Hope Force Reservist

There are three phases to disaster response: the immediate relief, the recovery, followed by the rebuild.

As we've served throughout the community of Holiday Lakes, we've identified those who would benefit from a continued HFI response effort as recovery moves towards the rebuilding stage.

We are very grateful for each HFI Reservist who has given of their time and energy to make this response possible. We're equally grateful for those who have invested financially into the recovery efforts. Partnering together has brought much needed help and hope to our friends in Texas.

We are in great need for additional volunteers to continue this effort. Will you please prayerfully consider becoming a tangible and compassionate response to those who have been affected?

We would appreciate your prayers for strength for our responders -- as well as financial support that will enable this response to continue. With heartfelt gratitude and thanks in advance,
