Resources

Our resources for employers and new immigrants are ready for your business!

Welcome PG's resources are finally printed! There have been a lot of projects done since Welcome PG started in 2008, and in this phase we have been focusing on bridging the gap between new immigrants and employers.

"Hiring Skilled New Immigrants: Tools for Employers,” and “Welcome to Prince George: An Introduction to Work and Life for New Immigrants”  are the two resources we've created, and are meant to help integrate new Canadians successfully into our community by building mutual understanding, and in turn help Prince George's economy continue to grow, especially throughout the labour shortages.

The resources for employers include information on local demographics and supports services, visa and immigration information, as well as tips on how to successfully hire and retain new immigrants.  The resource for new immigrants includes information on city services and how the Canadian job process works.

After all of our hard work, these resources are ready to distribute to organizations throughout the city!  We are keen to present the resources to organizations that are interested in learning more on this topic and bring the resources to you. Or you might prefer to attend our hour and a half presentation about how to successfully hire and retain a new immigrant into the workplace, here at IMSS on May 30th, at 10:00am.  In either case, please contact me if you are interested at Kelley@imss.ca or 250-562-2900.

The resources are also available online at our website: www.welcomepg.ca.

Successfully Hiring New Immigrants

Information Session

As stated above, we have an upcoming employer workshop on hiring new immigrants on Wednesday May 30th, from 10:00am - 11:30am.  This past week on May 9th we held our first employer information session and here is some feedback about the session from employers:

"The most informative part of the presentation for me was the description about different visa's" - Private enterprise employer

"My favourite part of the workshop was learning about Prince George's demographics and knowing what minorities are here" - Government employee

"Learning how to gain foreign workers was the best part for me in my business." - Private enterprise employer

Labour shortages are coming and many employers in town are already feeling the crunch - Telus is looking for over 70 employers, one Tim Horton's needs another 10 workers, and hotels are losing their employees to camp jobs!  In order to stop the poaching of employees we need to have more people move here.  Come out to learn more about hiring new immigrants and how it can benefit your business.
