When this e-letter goes out, we will just have finished our Firefighters Kids Camp, where over 50 burn injured children ages 7-17 will have enjoyed a week-long summer camp in Lake Tahoe having the time of their life and learning how to cope with their burn injuries. For over 20 years now Firefighters Kids Camp has attracted burn injured children from all over Northern and Central California, and even the entire world. Stay tuned for camp photos to come!
This past June we hosted our 3rd Annual “Firefighter’s Tropical Affair”
fundraiser held at Shriners Hospital for Children, Northern California. The event was a huge success with well over 700 guests enjoying an evening under the stars with Sacramento’s finest restaurants, wineries and breweries, all while dancing the night away! A special thanks goes out to Shriners Hospital for allowing us to hold our event at their venue. Additionally, we would like to thank all of the vendors, sponsors and volunteers that made this night such a success…we could not have done it without you! The hard work and dedication of everyone involved paid off by raising over $43,000 that will go towards helping burn survivors and the medical professionals that treat them. This event has continued to grow each year and plans for next year’s 4th Annual “Firefighter’s Tropical Affair” are already in the works. Keep an
eye out for more details to come!
Our Little Heroes Preschool Burn Camp
will be held November 11th-16th! “Little Heroes” is a burn recovery camp for little burn survivors ages 3-6 years old and their families. The importance of this camp for young burn survivors cannot be emphasized enough. This unique camp program helps children along with their families to understand and cope with physical and emotional challenges associated with burn recovery. This one-of-a-kind camp is the only preschool burn camp of its kind offered in the United States. FFBI would like to thank and recognize The Taylor Family Foundation for hosting “Little Heroes” which is held at The Taylor Family Foundation at Camp Arroyo in Livermore, CA.
I would like to thank everyone for your continued support of the Firefighters Burn Institute. As always, if there is anything that I can do to help you or if you have any ideas on what we can do to make the Firefighters Burn Institute even better please let me know!
Take care,
Jim Doucette
